COMMACK, N.Y. — Gurwin, a nonprofit, independent seniors housing community in the Long Island town of Commack, has announced plans to build Fountaingate Gardens, an independent living expansion of the community.

Built in 1988 as a skilled nursing facility, Gurwin has gradually added assisted living, home care and adult daycare to its offerings. When Fountaingate Gardens is completed, Gurwin will feature the full continuum of care, becoming the fourth continuing care retirement community (CCRC) on Long Island.

Gurwin plans to break ground on the expansion in 2018 and already has 141 resident deposits. The total number of proposed units in Fountaingate Gardens was not disclosed.
