DOWNEY, Calif. — The Ensign Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ENSG) has acquired Downey Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in Downey, approximately 13 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

The property features 99 beds. The purchase price and seller were not disclosed.

Ensign, which is the parent company of the Ensign group of skilled nursing, rehabilitative care services, home health care, hospice care and assisted living companies, is based in nearby Mission Viejo. Christopher Christensen, Ensign’s president and CEO, noted that Los Angeles features a “mature cluster” of facilities for the company, and said the company was excited to “transform an operation in [our] own backyard.”

Ensign’s California-based portfolio subsidiary Flagstone Healthcare South will take on the facility.

This acquisition brings Ensign’s portfolio to 190 skilled nursing operations (24 of which also include assisted living operations), 56 assisted and independent living communities, 24 hospice agencies, 25 home health agencies and seven home care businesses across 16 states. Ensign owns the real estate at 73 of its 246 healthcare operations.
