CHICAGO — Evergreen Real Estate Group has broken ground on two projects in Chicago’s North Side that will combine seniors housing with public library branches.

Evergreen is developing the properties in partnership with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Housing Authority and Chicago Public Library.

Independence Apartments and Independence Branch will be located in the Irving Park neighborhood. Designed by Perkins+Will, Northtown Apartments and Northtown Branch will be located in the West Ridge neighborhood.

“The project is a creative solution for a mixed-use, mixed-income development that addresses multiple neighborhood needs in a single project,” says David Block, director of development for Evergreen Real Estate Group.

Each development will provide a total of 44 senior apartments, including 30 public housing units and 14 affordable residences.

Founded in 1999, Chicago-based Evergreen Real Estate Group develops, acquires and manages affordable and market-rate multifamily apartments for both seniors and families across nine states. The company currently owns and manages 7,000 units of multifamily housing.
