NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — Nauset Construction has broken ground on Port Healthcare Center, a 123-bed skilled nursing facility in Newburyport, approximately 40 miles north of Boston.

The new property will replace an existing, antiquated, 100-bed facility on the site. When completed, Port Healthcare Center will offer long-term, short-term and rehabilitative care.

The owner and developer of the facility is Whittier Health Network. Ranere Associates designed the 62,000-square-foot, two-story building.

People’s United Bank provided $17 million in funding for the center. The project is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2017.
