MATTHEWS, N.C. — Construction has begun on a $95 million expansion of Plantation Estates, a continuing care retirement community in Matthews.

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, the parent company of Plantation Estates, has already begun pre-selling the 20 one-story villas and 126 newly designed independent living apartments being added to the campus, two-thirds of which are now reserved.

The approximately 1,500-square-foot apartments and 2,000-square-foot villas each have two bedrooms with a den, two bathrooms, and are available in a choice of styles and floor plans. The project also includes the addition of a two-story clubhouse that will encompass a fitness and aquatic center, multiple dining venues and a large auditorium for multi-function use.

The next phase of the campus enhancement will include the addition of a new WillowBrooke Court skilled care center that will incorporate the latest advances in residential, neighborhood-style nursing care and will increase capacity to 100 private skilled nursing beds. The existing skilled nursing center will then be renovated into additional assisted living residences. Additional apartments and villas may also be added in the future.
