Welltower to Change NYSE Ticker Symbol to WELL

by Jeff Shaw

TOLEDO, Ohio — Welltower Inc. (NYSE: HCN) has announced it will change its stock ticker symbol to WELL, effective Feb. 28.

Based in Toledo, Welltower is the largest REIT in the seniors housing space by market cap. The company is the second-largest owner of seniors housing in the United States, trailing only giant owner-operator Brookdale.

The HCN symbol is a reference to the company’s former name, Health Care REIT, which was changed to Welltower in 2015.

“Wellness is at the center of what we do and, by changing our ticker symbol to WELL, we’re able to further align our brand with our mission,” says Thomas DeRosa, Welltower’s CEO.

No action is needed from current shareholders in relation to the ticker symbol change, according to the company. The common and preferred stock will continue to be listed on the NYSE.
